Emirates Holidays plans to open cruise department within a year

The opening of the Emirates Holidays cruise division is planned for this fiscal year or early next.

According to Frederick Barden, senior vice president of Emirates Holidays, the cruise sector is now the most promising segment of the travel industry, whose revenue, according to experts, has recently grown by 20 percent, despite the global economic crisis.

Emirates Holidays is likely to enter into agreements with individual cruise companies on the basis of the contracts that Emirates Holidays usually sign with hotels. Thus, cabins will be purchased by Emirates Holidays from cruise companies with subsequent sale to the consumer.

According to Mr. Barden, when selling cruises, Emirates Holidays will also advise clients on the choice of a cruise based on their wishes and intentions.

At the moment, Emirates Holidays is mainly focused on the British and American cruise markets. According to Mr. Barden, it is in these countries that the cruise business is the most promising, while the UAE cruise market, according to him, will account for only a small number of company transactions. At the same time, according to a recent statement by the Department of Tourism and Commercial Marketing of Dubai, it is expected that in 2011, more than 100 cruise ships will stop at the port of Dubai, which will bring about 400 thousand passengers to the emirate.
