UAE residents expect a long weekend and two dry nights

September 21 was officially declared a paid holiday in the UAE in connection with the New Year on Hijra.

Dubai, UAE. Thursday, September 21, was officially declared a paid day off in the United Arab Emirates for public and private sector workers in connection with the celebration of the New Year on the Islamic calendar - hijra.

The first working day after a long weekend will be Sunday, September 24th. Sakr Gobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratization, made a statement. Hotels and restaurants are not allowed to serve alcohol on September 21 and 22, on Thursday and Friday. According to other sources, "dry night" will come today, September 20, after sunset, and will last until tomorrow, September 21.

Hijra New Year begins on the first day of the holy month of Muharram. On this day, a sermon is given in mosques dedicated to the passage of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622, the starting point of the Muslim lunar calendar.
