Cultural exchange

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates were established on September 1, 1992. The Embassy of Azerbaijan opened in Abu Dhabi in 2001. Eldar Nadir Oglu Salimov was appointed ambassador to the young Arab country, who to this day continues to work successfully in the diplomatic field.

Since 1994, the trade turnover between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the UAE has been increasing several times annually. But besides political relations, these two friendly countries have long-standing cultural ties that are growing and expanding from year to year.

The exchange of cultural and economic delegations has long become a good tradition between the two Muslim states. From 2001 to today, a number of cultural events have been held. Especially worth noting are the Days of Azerbaijani Culture held in Abu Dhabi. In April 2004, the UAE was visited by national artists of Azerbaijan, masters of classical music under the guidance of Professor Farhad Vadalbeyli, sisters Khuraman and Fidan Kasimov, the State Symphony Orchestra named after Uzeyir Hajibeyov. The delegation was led by the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan, the most popular singer and actor Polad Bul-Bul Ogli.

Continuing the tradition, within the framework of the cultural exchange from September 27 to October 2 this year, the UAE Culture Days were held in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The delegation of the United Arab Emirates was headed by the Deputy Minister of Information and Culture of the country, Mr. Sagr Gobash.

The program of acquaintance with the UAE culture had many events: an exhibition of paintings, a book exposition, a photo exhibition about the country, a lecture on the history and development of the United Arab Emirates, a performance by a dance ensemble, and folk art was widely represented.

Discussion of issues of further cooperation and the development of ties in the field of culture has led to the fact that at the end of 2005 (December 26-29), Sharjah Days are planned in Azerbaijan. The program will be full of cultural and economic events in which representatives of the creative and business circles of this emirate will take part.

The Sharjah Days will open a large forum, after which meetings and negotiations between businessmen, entrepreneurs and representatives of the creative intelligentsia will take place. There will be performances by various groups. Sharjah, declared by UNESCO as the "cultural capital of the Emirates" in 1998, will be interesting to introduce to the sister country right now, when the emirate rulers pay special attention to the development of this cultural and economic center, preservation and enhancement of traditions and historical heritage.

During the rich program of “Days of Sharjah”, residents and guests of Azerbaijan will get acquainted with the works of artists, samples of carpet weaving and calligraphy, products of potters and jewelers, ancient musical instruments, national clothes and traditional henna painting.

The exchange of economic and cultural experience is no less interesting to Azerbaijani politicians, businessmen and entrepreneurs. High standards of living, annual economic growth, the systematic distribution of profits and the proper use of resources are the main topics of discussion at official meetings.

The further plans of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the Emirates are to organize and hold the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in the UAE in 2006, within the framework of which the first events will be held on a return visit to Sharjah, and then to Dubai.
