Dubai driver gets 10 years for heroin storage

A driver from Dubai was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of a large consignment of heavy drugs.

A driver from Dubai was sentenced to 10 years for possession of about 1 kg of heroin. Drug trafficking officers seized heroin capsules from the accused, which were stored in his house in a bag near the bed.

The Dubai court of first instance accused the defendant of possession of 1 kg of drugs and fined him 100 dirhams. The driver himself pleaded not guilty. "I did not know that there were drugs in these capsules, I have nothing to do with this bag," he told the court.

Presiding Judge Fahd Al-Shamsi ruled that seized drugs would be confiscated and the accused would be deported after serving his sentence.

A court decision may be appealed within 15 days.

When asked about the drug bag, the defendant replied that his friend had left the bag while moving from his old apartment in Ajman to the new one in Sharjah.

“She was in my house for three months, but I never knew what drugs were in my bag, since I never opened it. I was going to give it to my friend as soon as he returned from Pakistan,” the defendant said.

According to the police lieutenant, the accused was detained shortly after he agreed to sell heroin.

The officers received a warrant to detain the offender, after which an outfit from the drug trafficking department raided the parking lot at which the driver was at that moment and detained the suspect.

Police did not find drugs or prohibited substances in the defendant. However, during the interrogation, the accused admitted that he kept the drug capsules in a bag in his apartment in Sharjah. The police searched the apartment of the defendant and found a bag containing 139 capsules of heroin with a total weight of about a kilogram.

“Having received a warrant, we detained the defendant. When asked if he had any drugs, he answered“ no, ”during the search of the detainee, we didn’t find anything. He told us that he had a bag at home and that in she has some medicine capsules, but which ones he doesn’t know. Near his bed we really found a bag, and there are 139 capsules of heroin in it, "said the lieutenant.
