In the United Arab Emirates fake fake SMS alerts

The authorities of the United Arab Emirates have responded to the sending of messages about the fine for using VPN services.

Residents of the UAE share on social networks SMS messages received this week allegedly from the country's telecommunications service. They say that the recipient must pay a fine of 5 thousand dirhams ($ 1.36 thousand) at the nearest police station, as he was convicted of illegal use of VPN services to bypass network locks.

UAE Telecommunications Authority (TRA) has denied rumors of fines. On Sunday evening, the operator etisalat and TRA announced that the message was fake and was not sent on behalf of official services.
