Representatives of the Uzbek national team won the medal of the continental saber fencing championship for the first time.
The saber fencers of the Uzbekistan national team won the silver medal in team performances at the Asian Championship among cadets and juniors, held from February 24 to March 5 in Dubai (UAE), the Fencing Federation told Gazeta.uz.
Thanks to successful performances in personal competitions, the national team - Sherzod Mamutov, Pazylbek Genzhebaev, Zhaloliddin Dushamboev and Bobirjon Rasulov - began their performance in the quarterfinal. At this stage of the tournament, the Uzbeks defeated the representatives of Jordan with a score of 45:23.
In the semifinals, Uzbekistan defeated Kuwait in a tense confrontation - 45:44. In the final, the Uzbeks lost to rivals from South Korea with a score of 45:26.
As noted in the federation, this is the first medal of the continental saber fencing championship in the history of Uzbekistan.
