New hotel opens in Abu Dhabi desert

Dubai-based Jumeirah will manage the Abu Dhabi hotel.

The Jumeirah Hotel Group from Dubai has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi United Hospitality LLC to manage a new desert hotel outside the UAE capital.

Jumeirah Al Wathba Desert Resort will occupy 20 thousand square meters. m in the desert in the Al Wathba area, 50 km southeast of Abu Dhabi. The complex will feature 90 rooms and 13 villas, as well as a restaurant, a rooftop bar, a spa, conference rooms and a camping area.

The hotel should be open in September.

"Jumeirah Al Wathba Desert Resort will be the 12th luxury Jumeirah hotel in the UAE, and this innovative project offers Jumeirah the perfect opportunity to showcase our truly Arabian hospitality," said Jumeirah COO Mark Dardenne.

"We are confident that the resort will become an outstanding place and will contribute to the further development of tourism in the emirate," he added.

Jumeirah operates 20 luxury hotels and 18 are still under preparation as part of the development of the main brand. Five more will be opened under the recently announced Zabeel House brand.

The company said it will open at least five hotels this year, including Jumeirah Royal Saray, Bahrain, Jumeirah Sa'adiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah Bali, Indonesia, Jumeirah Nanjing, China, and Jumeirah Muscat Bay, Oman.
