Dubai will have a new application for ordering a taxi

Dubai authorities teamed up with Careem to launch a joint taxi booking application.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will set up a joint venture with Careem in the taxi industry. The name and logo of the new company will be announced in the next few months, and from April 2019, it will already serve customers.

The announcement was made during a press conference held by Mattar Al-Thayer, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, and Mudassir Sheikh, Co-Founder and CEO of Careem.

The decision is consistent with the initiative of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE vice president and prime minister and ruler of Dubai, to turn the emirate into the smartest city in the world.

“This partnership between the state transportation agency and a private taxi organization is the first of its kind in the world,” Al-Thayer said.

He added that the joint venture supports Dubai’s integrated mobile platform (S'Hail), which allows customers to access all public transport in one application.

It is expected that the new application will reduce the waiting time of the vehicle, provide online payments, work out optimal routes and access to information about the vehicle and driver.

The new company will operate 10,843 taxi cars.
