The first devices supporting the network of the future will appear in the UAE this summer

United Arab Emirates Telecommunications Service Provider Predicts Delivery of First 5G Devices in Summer

Etisalat, UAE telecommunications provider from the UAE, has announced that its 5G network is fully operational and consumers will be able to access it when 5G smartphones appear on the market.

Khalifa Alshamsi, Etisalat's Corporate Strategy and Management Team Leader, said: "We look forward to seeing new 5G devices by June. That is when consumers will have the opportunity to experience real 5G. We’ve already fully deployed the network."

Commenting on the role of technology in the media sector, he added that the leaders of the Arab world are active users of social networks, led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai.

Alshamsi said that the latest technology can completely change the way news is collected and transmitted to the audience: 5G will allow news organizations to instantly broadcast any multimedia content in real time. The media, he said, will also be able to use tools such as drones and autonomous vehicles running on 5G to improve the quality of their reporting.

“Let's just take a look at new technologies, such as augmented reality or virtual reality. It's only a matter of time before news content will be adapted to these technologies. In the past, holograms were just science fiction. Now it’s reality,” he added.
