Russia and UAE sign agreement on transfer of convicts

The head of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, Alexander Konovalov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, signed an agreement on the transfer of persons sentenced to deprivation of liberty, the Russian Justice Ministry said on Wednesday.

“On June 26, 2019, Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed an agreement between the Russian Federation and the United Arab Emirates on the transfer of persons sentenced to deprivation of liberty. The corresponding order was given to the Ministry of Justice of Russia by order of the President of the Russian Federation ", the message said.

The event was attended by the representative of the Russian Federation at the European Court of Human Rights - Deputy Minister of Justice Mikhail Halperin, acting Director of the Department of International Law and Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice of Russia Ekaterina Kudelich, Director of the Department of Organization and Control of the Ministry Andrei Chumakov, as well as other representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Russia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE.
