Dubai launches new university ranking system

Branches of international universities in Dubai will receive ratings in accordance with the new classification.

On July 2, 2019, it was announced that the branches of international universities in Dubai would be ranked according to the new classification. The grading system will help students make informed choices in higher education.

The system was approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Muhammad Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.

“The Dubai government gives top priority to developing higher education and enhancing the competitiveness of our local universities. This is part of our efforts to build a knowledge-based economy,” Sheikh Hamdan said.

The rating system developed by the Office of Knowledge and Human Development (KHDA) is based on the experience of countries that have made great efforts to attract foreign students.

The rating is based on a quality system (QS) adopted in 80 countries. Universities are assigned stars in accordance with the quality of education. Institutions can receive from one to six stars. The maximum number of stars will receive the leading universities of the world.

The system evaluates, among others, the quality of teaching, research, the quality of educational programs and the learning environment.
