Those few who saw him say that the Odyssey of People symbolizes the liberation, hope and faith of people in peace and freedom, the dream of Shammut returning home - during the Arab-Israeli war in 1948 he was forced to flee with his family from Lydda first to the refugee camp of the Palestinian city of Khan Younis (Gaza Strip), then to Egypt, then to Rome, where the artist studied painting. He never managed to return to his homeland.
