The prototype of the new sports car for public roads was first shown in the summer of 2016 at the Aston Martin factory in Heydon, Warwickshire. In the Emirates, the premiere took place in November 2016 in Abu Dhabi during the Formula 1 Grand Prix. The sports car was presented by the head of Aston Martin, Andy Palmer, together with Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen (Adrian Newey, technical director of the Red Bull team, took part in the creation of the car, which has little in common with serial coupes and convertibles of the brand). If in July the audience was shown only the shape of a hypercar, then at a presentation in the UAE its technical characteristics were finally presented.
As already noted, AM-RB 001 is not the first mid-engined version in the history of the British brand. The first was a 608-horsepower Aston Martin Bulldog coupe, built in 1979 in a single copy. Now they are going to make about 150 GT class cars and 25 rally versions for Le Mans and similar competitions.
Sophisticated molding of a carbon fiber body allows you to abandon the traditional, not allowing hypercars to come off the ground spoilers. Their role is played by the extensive ducts that penetrate the AM-RB 001 in the lower part of the housing. Due to the seven-liter V12 “Vulcan” engine modified to a capacity of 1200 horsepower, the two-ton car reaches a speed of 320 km / h from standstill in 10 seconds. Based on the cooperation agreement concluded with the brand in 2013 with Daimler AG, it can be assumed that the motor is German. Like most on-board electronics, including directional stabilization and navigation systems. Rear gear in the all-new AM-RB 001 transmission is missing as a class. The car will move back due to the KERS electric recovery system borrowed from the Formula 1 fireball arsenal.
That is, the AM-RB 001 can, with some degree of conventionality, be called a hybrid car. “For a long time I dreamed about the possibility of designing a road car,” explains Adrian Newey, one of the best car designers in the world. “All 30 years of experience in Formula 1 said that you need to cooperate not with garage studios, but with a powerful serial manufacturer. Aston Martin has always been on the list for me at the top. "
Over the years, the British brand has had several foreign owners, including Ford. Now, companies are helping private British investment funds stay afloat by preventing foreign investors from acquiring a blocking stake. Among the non-influencing shareholder production policies, Indians and, as already mentioned, Germans were noticed.
Led by Dietrich Mateschitz, the Austrian energy drink group Red Bull bought the Jaguar Racing Formula One team from Ford in 2004. For 12 years, Red Bull designers have collaborated with engine suppliers such as Jaguar, Ferrari and Renault. The team’s cars are now equipped with a RE16 turbocharged engine, which can also be considered German by the agreement between Renault-Nissan and Daimler 2010.
“Working with Adrian and the Red Bull Racing team filled us with new valuable experience every day,” says Marek Reichman. “The Aston Martin brand has never developed such a new and different machine from traditional ones. In Heydon, under AM-RB 001 they even made a separate production line. "
To date, the cost of the “formulated” mid-engined hypercar from Aston Martin is 2.75 million euros. To queue for a car, you need to pay a deposit of 500 thousand. The price includes refinement from the Q tuning court studio, named after the hero of the film, strongly associated with the English brand.
“Of course, no one will shoot rockets and spill oil on the road in front of the pursuers of AM-RB 001,” says David King, the chief designer of special forces of Q. “But we will put an active suspension on request and raise engine power to 1300 hp.” and offer the finest finishes worthy of true super agents.
