The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority has announced plans to build a new ecological resort on Bu Nuair island. The resort, which will include a five-star hotel, a market and sports facilities, will be located along the coastline for 65 km. It will be implemented by 2017, and its cost is estimated at 500 million dirhams (US $ 136.2 million).

The island, which is a haven for all kinds of land and sea animals, is located 40 minutes from the administrative center of Sharjah. The new hotel will have from 70 to 100 rooms, as well as 70 serviced apartments, villas, a museum, an amphitheater, campsite and an educational center for the study of wildlife.

The resort will be designed for both tourists and residents of the UAE: it will be possible to engage in active sports, including diving, climbing, swimming, cycling, etc. Water buses will run to the island, which will run twice a day. Traveling by sea from Dubai takes 23 hours, by air from Abu Dhabi - only 40 minutes
