Excellence and craftsmanship
A characteristic feature of this exceptional octagonal case is the clean, elastic lines that immediately inform you: this watch has a temperament, as well as elegance and strength. To achieve such sophistication of form and design complexity, the Octo case undergoes a long and rigorous manufacturing process, and this applies to each of its elements. The core, bezel and back cover - all of these parts go through numerous technological manipulations before they reach the assembly line.
The case completely manufactured within the walls of the factory has a total of 11 faces, not counting the sculpturally executed ceramic crown. Each detail is carefully processed manually, then it is polished or a “satin” surface is created with a brush to meet one single criterion: perfection. The Octo line of watches declares its presence in a completely natural fashion, which is emphasized by the elegant dial, coated with black varnish, and manually set numbers and indexes that embody the absolute purity of this extraordinary creation.
The mechanisms
A symbolic element of the creativity of Bulgari masters is the fact that the entire Octo watch line is equipped with outstanding mechanisms. The BVL 193 caliber with hours, minutes, seconds and a date window at 3 o’clock reflects the exceptional nature of this watch as a whole. This self-winding mechanism uses an omnidirectional oscillating mass built into the ball bearing to guarantee an optimal winding and is equipped with two cylinders. Such a configuration is completely atypical for modern watch production, however, it improves isochronous resistance during the spring plant, which is synonymous with continuity of action and, accordingly, accuracy. Moreover, the mechanism has a power reserve of 50 hours.
The finish of the BVL 193 caliber is characterized by the highest level of quality even of the smallest details, such as hand-polished bolts and “satin” surfaces of the gear brushed by brush. As for the structural elements, they all went through a long and complicated decoration process. Stripes are applied to the bottom plate, bridges are decorated with the “cotes de Geneve” motif, and their edges are rounded and polished. It is this attention to every detail of the mechanisms that puts the Octo line on a par with the best watches in the world.
Story
The first Bulgari watches were released in 1920, but only in 1970 the company presented its full-fledged watch collection to the world community. In 1982, Bulgari Time was established in Neuchatel, the center of Swiss watchmaking. Today, more than 500 people work in its walls, who monitor the process of producing watches under the Bulgari brand.
In 2005, the Bulgari Group acquired three companies - Gerald Genta, Daniel Roth and Manufacture de Haute Horlogerie. The first two companies produce high-end Swiss watches, and the third is the owner of watch factories. This acquisition allowed Bulgari Group to develop its strategy of vertical integration in the watch production process. Then the group bought a 100% stake in the Swiss company Finger, specializing in the design and creation of cases for complex mechanical watches. Thus, the Bulgari Group became a full member of the world of "high watchmaking", and in July 2012 introduced its new collection of mechanical watches Octo in its
boutique in Rome.
Collection
To date, the Octo 2012 collection includes men's watches in stainless steel and rose gold cases, including chronographs, and watch instruments with a “jumping” hour and a retrograde minute hand: Octo Pink Gold, Octo Steel, Octo Bi-Retro , Octo Chronographe Quadri-Retro. The diameters of the cases vary from 41 to 43-45 mm. All models of the line are produced either on alligator leather straps with folding gold clasps, or on rubber straps with steel clasps. The water resistance of each model is 100 meters.
