UAE authorities switched to an electronic vehicle registration system.
On the eve of the Dubai Traffic and Transport Administration (RTA) announced a complete transition to a digital vehicle registration system. Thus, from August 1, 2018, motorists will be issued virtual certificates of registration of the vehicle with an unlimited duration.
Virtual certificates will replace valid plastic cards issued annually after renewal of vehicle registration.
The introduction of virtual certificates is the third and final stage of the transition to a system of unlimited registration of commercial vehicles, taxis and rental cars. Recall that the first two stages were implemented at the beginning of this year.
“The new system eliminates the need to obtain plastic certificates every year, instead, car owners will be issued virtual cards, the validity of which is unlimited. In other words, you will need to register your car only once at the time of purchase, after which registration will be renewed every year subject to purchase insurance and vehicle inspection, ”said Sultan Al Marzuki, head of the RTA Vehicle Licensing Division.
After passing the inspection, which is mandatory for all cars older than three years, it will be possible to renew the registration certificate through the RTA mobile application in Dubai Drive, at www.rta.ae, or through the call center by phone 8009090.
"After renewing the registration, the car owner will receive a virtual certificate in the mail, and the data will also be displayed in the personal account of the RTA application," added Mr. Al Marzuki.
Despite the fact that the electronic certificate of registration will be valid also abroad, Mr. Al Marzuki urged motorists traveling outside the country to print a document just in case.

“I think that many motorists will find it convenient to use the automatic update option. All you need to do is register an electronic wallet on the RTA website, replenish the balance by the required amount and activate the automatic update option. Registration will be renewed automatically after passing the annual vehicle inspection and purchasing an insurance policy. An electronic wallet can also be used to pay fines, "added Mr. Al Marzuki.
