Sharjah will become the most comfortable city for children in the UAE

The authorities of the city of Sharjah from the United Arab Emirates plan to create a favorable urban environment for children.

Sharjah Emirate city planning authorities, UAE, plan to develop a roadmap aimed at turning Sharjah into a comfortable city for children.

As part of this strategy, officials held an event called “Urban Planning for Children” last Sunday. The event was hosted by the Sharjah Urban Planning Council (SUPC) in collaboration with the Sharjah Child-Friendly Office (SCFO) and the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (Unicef).

By 2025, six out of ten children are expected to live in cities and urban areas, according to a UNICEF report. At such a fast pace of urbanization, providing a quality environment for children and youth has become one of the biggest challenges facing the UAE, the report said.

Discussions during the event were devoted to the problems that children face today, and how proper urban planning can help solve these problems.

"We are responsible for creating a safe and suitable environment for children and youth, which can serve as a platform for entertainment and education and contribute to the well-being and future of young people," said Khalid Al Ali, Secretary General of SUPC.
