Abu Dhabi Foundation to Help Open Female Taxi in Chechnya

With the support of the fund from Abu Dhabi, a special taxi for women only will start working in the Chechen Republic.

A special taxi to service exclusively women with female drivers will appear in Grozny before the end of 2019.

The Mehkariy project, which means girls in Chechen, will receive financial assistance from the Sheikh Zayed Foundation to support entrepreneurship and innovation.

“The cost of the Mehkariy project is a taxi for women, about 13 million rubles, of which 2.5 million is the applicant’s contribution, we will cover the rest. At the initial stage, the entrepreneur will purchase two cars, and in two months, depending on how much in demand, we will provide five more. A total of 17 cars are planned, "Sulim Akhmadov, the Fund’s business consultant, told TASS.

According to the project initiator Madina Tsakaeva, the launch of such a service is necessary in the region in terms of traditions and religious norms. “Not everyone can afford to drive taxi drivers with men, this contradicts both Islamic religious standards and personal principles in the family. I myself am a woman and I know the problem firsthand, this service is a necessity. In addition to transportation services, the project includes cleaning services, call of the make-up artist on the house, hijamu, ”Tsakaeva noted.

She added that there are already a huge number of people wishing to work in the service. “But we will carefully select, taking into account not only the driving experience, but also the psychological state. Over time, we plan to expand and launch such services in Ingushetia and Dagestan,” Tsakaeva said.

The Zayed Foundation opened in Grozny in May 2017. Representatives of the UAE business intend to support 3 thousand small and medium enterprises in the Chechen Republic and create about 70 thousand jobs within 10 years.

The main areas of support include providing financing for the creation of a new and development of an existing business, training and consulting entrepreneurs and promoting the development of the entrepreneurial community. The fund operates in three areas: traditional financing at 11% per annum, Islamic partner financing, leasing (installments) of 13% per annum.
