A bus driver who got into a traffic accident in Dubai on June 6 may be required to pay compensation to the relatives of the deceased passengers.

As the investigation established, the driver of the bus traveling from Muscat to Dubai violated the rules of the road and crashed into a traffic sign - a limiter on the height of the vehicle. As a result of the accident, 17 people were killed and 13 more injured.

For causing harm to the life and health of passengers, the Dubai Transport Court may oblige the 53-year-old driver to pay compensation to the victims' relatives in the amount of AED 3.4 million (US $ 930 thousand). "The investigation accused the driver of causing harm to the life and health of passengers. He may be sentenced to seven years in prison and fined. He may also be required to pay Dir 3.4 million to the relatives of the victims," ​​said investigator Salah bu Farusha Al Felasi, director of the investigation department in transport.

Dubai Attorney General Issam Issa Al Khumaydan and a team of investigators were present at the scene of the accident, participated in investigative actions and took the driver into custody. They noted that the driver was moving along a strip not intended for buses at a speed of 94 km / h at a set speed of 40 km / h and ignored two warning signs.

The driver admitted in court that he did not pay attention to the warning signs, despite the fact that he had previously traveled along the same highway. As a result of the impact, the beam of the vehicle height limiter literally cut the bus on one side. The driver himself was slightly injured. Investigators brought condolences to the relatives of all the victims.
